Meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Pres. Albert Sternthal. Also present were Gordon Dysart, Curt Busk, Rod Rose, Jan Jackson, Susan Springer, and Bernice Brown.
Minutes of the last Board Meeting were read and approved (with the following corrections: Treasurer's Report should include check for $480 to Rhondda Cotten; The grant for KAP school is not our grant, and we do not have to re-apply; In the report about the Windows class, it had been decided not to bill the lady who could not attend class because she was injured.) Secretary was also asked to check with the Treasurer to be sure that the Balance figure in the minutes is accurate.
Treasurer's Report: in the absence of Mary Nall, Al gave Treasurer's report = Bank balance is $2956.78. Report accepted.
OLD BUSINESS:
Al reported that the Windows Class was successful, and that Rhondda had agreed to offer a course for Windows XP, if requested. -Curt agreed that it was a good idea, but that we don't have access to a facility with computers having that program installed, and we should think of future ways to incorporate this course. Rod reported that manufacturers say you can request certain programs instead of XP when buying a new computer. Comment was made that Bill Gates (a/o Jan. 1st) had reassigned 9000 Engineers to "fix" problems in XP.
There was discussion about dues being due in January instead of September, as was formerly the case. This leaves some members confused about which year they paid for (when paying last September). We are trying to clear up the misunderstanding by checking with the Treasurer's record of payments, and again posting on the Website that dues are payable in January.
NEW BUSINESS:
Al and Curt are planning a social gathering for Board Members (and spouses) around the end of May, or early June. Exact date to be announced soon.
Gordon wanted to be sure that last month's minutes mentioned that Larry Larkin had cancelled as speaker on short notice, and that Curt had filled in as speaker. Minutes did show this. Gordon announced that Sarah Barlow (who was scheduled for the April meeting's program) had also had to cancel, and that Rhondda Cotten will be our speaker. The program will be a comparison of Windows 98, Windows 2000, and XP. For May 28 meeting, Gordon is planning a program by someone from IBM.
Curt suggested a possible program speaker he heard about, on the subject "How to Make Money on the Internet". Gordon will look into this, and let us know later.
Curt said that the Internet SIG had 13 present last time, and is a good course. They meet on 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 2 - 3:30 p.m. at the Library. There was some discussion about the Library having second thoughts about our Club using this facility on every Thursday. The Digital Camera SIG will still be held at the Library on 3rd Thursday, 1 - 2:30 p.m. but the Grab Bag will be held on the 1st Wednesday at the Library from 1 - 2:30 p.m. beginning in May. The Library is considering being open 7 days a week.
It was announced that we will continue regular meetings during the Summer. There will be no SIG's offered in June, July or August, with the exception of the Internet SIG which has already begun, and will continue through June and July.
Curt said that the Librarian had approached him about our Club giving a donation to the Library. Discussion included that most of the other organizations (including Lions' Club) had discontinued their donations to the Library since there is a Tax income for the Library now. We will try to obtain more facts, and determine what action should be taken in the future.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
Respectfully Submitted
Bernice Brown
